John Walker - Too Old To Die Series (#1-9)
Too Old To Die Series by John Walker (#1-9)
Sci-Fi/Fantasy - ePub 1.3 MB
1. Too Old To Die - Gareth Weston feels old. After a lifetime as a soldier, he’s retired to a quiet part of Earth where he expects to live out the rest of his days in quiet tranquility. With the universe at peace, he experiences a sense of uselessness. Long hikes in the woods only go so far in keeping him busy and active.
Sometimes, fate isn’t content to allow obscurity to set in. When a mysterious force descends upon Earth, Gareth learns how battered his body has become. What starts off as a threat to his small community swiftly escalates as the invaders obliterate major cities. With few chances for survival, and only a rogue doctor as an ally, Gareth must find a way to escape his home. Or die trying.
2. Hearts Of Men - A universe in turmoil. Apathetic allies. Death sweeping through the human colonies.
Gareth Weston travels with a ragtag group of criminals and soldiers, intent on exploring a secret military base. They hope to uncover something to help them with their struggle against the alien aggressors, anything to give humanity an edge in the coming weeks. What they find instead is a mausoleum with something far more horrifying than they ever imagined.
Meanwhile, Admiral Thomas Gaston works to bring together the allies of humanity in an effort to push back the enemy forces through traditional warfare. But with his one fleet, he finds himself on the run. With no prospects, few hopes, and dwindling resources, they stumble upon a survivor from Earth. One who may hold the key to their survival, or confirmation of their doom.
3. War Torn - Humanity stands on a dangerous threshold. Desperate, cornered, hiding, they must ally themselves with anyone willing to fight back against the alien aggression that cost them their homeworld. To that end, an ambassador is sent to speak with the Zitha, a culture well known for raiding others like Vikings of old. Can they be swayed to assist? Or will they be just as much of a danger as the threat already in motion?
Meanwhile, Commander Weston and his ragtag crew set course for the last place any of them wants to go. The colony where it all started in search of a cipher to unlock vital intelligence to the war. What they find there might challenge their understanding of the enemy while putting their lives at risk. Even with advanced technology, they find themselves outgunned by their opponents who seem desperate to find some hidden secret in the rubble.
4. Risky Alliance - Earth has fallen. Humanity’s military is in shambles. Those willing to fight work desperately to find allies so they might survive the purge. Admiral Thomas Gaston takes a chance, sending a battleship to evacuate colonies and save lives. They meet stiff resistance, learning just how powerful their enemies have become. With no backup and countless people relying on them, they must risk everything or lose even more.
Commander Gareth Weston and his ragtag crew finally have some direction. The enemy seems to be seeking scientists from every other culture. One of which was last seen in a settlement which may already be under attack by Veldon forces. Time is of the essence and they race to save the man before he falls under the influence of the most ruthless invaders anyone has ever encountered.
Meanwhile, on the hunt to bring more allies to humanity’s aid, an ambassador’s ship encounters a mysterious alien race famous for their isolationism. As they attempt contact, they discover a power they never imagined. If they succeed, they may have the help they so desperately needed but if not, their fate could be worse than had they died on Earth.
5. Turning Point - The universe continues to spiral out of control. Those remaining discover threats within their own organizations, people they thought they could trust. Friends become enemies even while the Veldon war machine crushes all opposition within its path. The only hope may be with the crew of the Pytheas, though even their small team is not above a little internal conflict.
Earth ambassadors strive toward peace with other cultures, convinced they can still unify the rest of the galaxy against what should be a mutual enemy. But no one has been immune to the assault and while some cultures have hidden themselves away, others are subject to threats of their own. Can the humans help their neighbors or will they all fall together?
6. Cost Of Hate - Humanity rallies as they cultivate their alliance with the warlike Zitha. They establish a base of operations as a hub for their activities, and to keep their civilian population safe. Captain Kensington must find a way to work with Minister Bracknel. Without his spy to state otherwise, a grudging trust must be established for the good of the EDF and humanity as a whole.
Meanwhile, the crew of the Pytheas struggle to survive the attempt to rescue Chelsea Weston from her former employers. With some of their people trapped on the surface with natural disasters and hunters after them, and others in space, they face an enemy without self-preservation or morality. One willing to commit suicide to defeat their enemies.
Ambassador Chance and his small delegation find themselves thrown through space to the farthest reaches of the galaxy. Their ship crashes on a planet that has become a war zone, a prison for a dozen factions all vying for escape. With dozens of desperate souls coming down upon them to steal their vessel, they must find a way to fend them off or be marooned there forever.
7. Collapse
The pieces have finally fallen into place for the Earth Defense Force. Multiple cultures have come together to form an alliance against the invading Veldon. As they gather to formulate a plan to bring peace to the universe, an insidious inside faction attempts to destroy all they’ve built.
Meanwhile, Commander Gareth Weston leads his team on a recon mission behind Veldon lines with no idea of what to expect. Patrick Worthing pursues the rogue JTF operative responsible for torturing countless prisoners while the ambassadorial detail of Alfred Chance jump through hoops to bring the Raldor into the alliance.
Each of these missions hold their own dangers which may cause not only the deaths of the operatives but the fragile peace between the benevolent cultures.
8. Unraveled - Humanity faces many threats in the wake of Earth’s destruction, none worse than those from within. A group of intrepid investigators works to uncover the mastermind behind the most recent, blatant plot against them. The trail is warm, there’s plenty of evidence, but can they find their mark before all the loose ends wind up dead?
Meanwhile, the search for allies continues for a beleaguered crew on the outskirts of known space. As they struggle against an unknown foe, they face overwhelming odds and a force more than willing to sacrifice dozens for their own ends. Far from home, with no chance of support or aid, the human soldiers must overcome impossible odds or never be heard from again.
9. End Of Watch - The scene is set. Humanity and their allies set their sights on a war long time coming. Their Veldon adversaries hide a secret which must be revealed. Doing so may well save the universe from total destruction. But failure carries a heavy toll. The fledgling alliance not only risks their military force, but all life as they know it.
A small group is selected to lead the charge. Their mission holds the key to preventing a mass extinction event. No one knows what they’ll find when they arrive or if they may discover overwhelming numbers to overcome. With partial intelligence, they must trust in their bonds and superior technology to end the conflict. Or die knowing the universe will end.
