Zoya Volkova Crime Thrillers by Nadya Frank (#1-3.5)

Mystery/Thriller - ePub 2.9 MB

1. The Girl from Moscow's Edge - A missing little brother. A murdered accomplice. A pissed-off crime boss. Her troubles are only beginning.
Zoya Volkova finds him on the icy garage floor. Her friend and accomplice, in a puddle of his own blood. Maybe it was one of the rich Muscovites they scammed for a car repair in that very garage. Maybe it has to do with the heist they’ve planned, the job that could change their lives.
Her boyfriend wants to go on with the rip-off. Her bestie talks her out of it. Caught up in a whirlwind of mistrust, Zoya learns about terrible things her estranged mother has done to Zoya’s siblings. Now she needs this money to mitigate the damage, but is it safe when she suspects everyone?
Racing against time, at odds with the police, a local crime boss, and her own conscience, Zoya needs to find out who murdered her partner. Will she fix her life or will she lose everything?

2. The Boy on the Highway - She saved a teenage heir from a bullet. Now the secrets of his wealthy family might kill her.
Zoya Volkova makes a living off small-time frauds and stays out of big trouble. But when a prominent Moscow businessman Oleg Dolin is murdered in front of her, Zoya breaks her own rules and helps his teenage son Kirill escape. Next thing she knows, someone has opened a hunting season on her.
To keep herself and Kirill safe, Zoya needs to find out the mastermind behind the murder. Was it a desperate business competitor? An angered crime boss? She’d probably get to the core of this faster if not for Kirill’s mother Rimma who is determined to keep her family’s secrets intact.
But are these secrets more precious than her son’s life? And how can a petty con artist go up against the corrupted police and the Moscow’s wealthiest in her attempts to save the innocent kid?

3. The Man by Her Door - She sees him too late—a dark shadow by her apartment door. Rushing down the flight, she tries to cry for help, but the words won’t come. A glint of steel is the last thing she remembers before the darkness swallows her whole.
When a 20-year-old Alisa Feoktistova disappears from her own stairwell, leaving behind only a pool of her blood, it becomes clear a new serial killer is on the loose in Moscow. He’s believed to have taken at least three people before Alisa, each time marking the crime scene with an ample amount of victim’s blood, which earned him a nickname Bloodletter.
Are all his victims dead? Or is there a chance Bloodletter keeps them alive, despite the blood loss?
One thing is for sure: private investigator Zoya Volkova won’t let go of this case. Years ago, her little brother went missing in a similar manner, a pool of blood glistening in the middle of the empty apartment. What if it wasn’t the doing of Zoya’s mother, like the judges decided, but of some bloodthirsty monster who avoided the justice then and now kills again?
Uncovering the connection between the victims, Zoya stumbles into a decade-long conspiracy in the heart of a Moscow hospital. She can’t trust anyone—not even Alisa’s family—as she untangles a knot of betrayals, medicine taboos, and stigma. She only knows that Bloodletter’s killing rampage is not over and more innocent lives are on the line.
Zoya will stop at nothing to save a life. But will she be able to find the truth before Bloodletter swings his blade at another victim’s throat?

3.5 Her First Mistake
Look, Zoya never asked to be a con artist, okay? But she’s good with cars, and she lives in a country where women can’t work as auto mechanics, so she scams drivers on Moscow roads to get by. It’s risky, it’s tedious, and her partners in crime ache to cross the line between chicanery and battery. When they deprive Zoya of her share of the score, she decides to work alone.
On the hindsight, this was the first domino that led to her being chased by a Russian mob all over Moscow and solving a murder to save her life. That one decision to hit the road. Her first mistake.
Lose yourself in Moscow’s murky underworld in this prequel to a story that’ll keep you reading all night!
