I feel so heartbroken reading these statistics. So many dead and some world leaders just shrug and say it's inevitable (I'm looking at you, Boris). Nobody, no matter what their age, is expendable.

We had our first death yesterday. I know statistically it was inevitable but the whole country is feeling scared and demoralized.

As we've seen with pets and the virus, new scientific facts regarding it may change from one day to the next. Here's an article about the virus on food products and packaging. Keep in mind, additional studies and facts may change this theory at any time.

I really wish more of our members would contribute to this thread. So many of us are very concerned about other places around the world.

The death total in the parish, Caddo, that I live in is now 5.

Louisiana's stats as of noon today:

Positive cases 4,025
Deaths 185
59 of 64 parishes affected

South Africa has had the benefit of seeing the mistakes and missteps that other countries have made but still did not manage to evade many of the biggest errors of judgement.

Positive cases 1326
Deaths 3

Not many tests have been done only around 35 000 and it takes almost a week before the people receive their results

The government is only launching now a massive, 10 000-strong, medical project to screen residents for the coronavirus...

Elderly grant recipients were queuing as early as 05:00 this morning to get their monthly payouts today. 70% do not use bank cards and receive it in cash so during lock down more than 60 000 people had to go to towns to collect their grants and then go to the shops to buy food.

A Group of people has taken the President to the Constitutional Court over the country’s 21-day lockdown. They believe this lock down is unconstitutional and that the COVID-19 coronavirus “poses no serious threat to the country and its people”.

They believes that COVID-19 cannot be harmful to Africans

AddictedToReading There is so much misinformation out there that it's unreal, but putting blinders on during a situation that has spread to such a global extent, that this belief in the pandemic is totally irrational and irresponsible. A friend in SA sent me this link regarding this issue your country is facing:

https://mybroadband.co.za/news/trending ... newsletter

On top of the misinformation, new studies are showing this:

https://www.foxnews.com/health/coronavi ... y-suggests

So this pandemic may be much, much worse than originally thought.

Since only two of our US members has bothered to post about their state, I will post this announcement:

U.S. deaths from the coronavirus pandemic topped 3,000 on Monday night as all 50 states have reported confirmed cases of the disease. New York City is considered the U.S. epicenter of the virus, with over 164,000 cases and 914 deaths.

Here in the state of Maryland we have several confirmed cases. They say it is not in all counties yet, but I believe it will be before it’s over. Yesterday our governor placed our state on lockdown meaning you stay at home except for only the necessities. This was done because so many people are ignoring this disease. We have been home except for the bare necessities during this whole outbreak.
I hope we all get through this and we all survive. Hope that all of you keep safe out there.

History repeats itself. Quoted from https://www.livescience.com/worst-epide ... story.html
12. Philadelphia yellow fever epidemic: 1793
When yellow fever seized Philadelphia, the United States' capital at the time, officials wrongly believed that slaves were immune. As a result, abolitionists called for people of African origin to be recruited to nurse the sick.

The disease is carried and transmitted by mosquitoes, which experienced a population boom during the particularly hot and humid summer weather in Philadelphia that year. It wasn't until winter arrived — and the mosquitoes died out — that the epidemic finally stopped. By then, more than 5,000 people had died.
