What have been your favourite books of 2019?

Post by Conradf2019 » Mon Jul 15, 2019 10:18 am

Hi all

Well we are half way through the year and I was wondering which books have enjoyed the most so far.
One of my faves has been ‘ The Affair of the Mysterious Letter’ by Alexis Hall.
A rather brilliant mash-up of steam punk, Holmes and Watson and Lovecraft.
I have a new literary heroine and her name is Shaharazad Haas.
A close second was ’Silver in the Wood’ by Emily Tesh.
A short novella but it took me by surprise, it was a fantastic wonderfully written story.
Anyway way those are my top picks, what are your favourites?

"The Last Letter" by Rebecca Yarros, "The Bookish Life of Nina Hill" by Abbi Waxman and "Before we were yours" by Lisa Wingate top my list so far. I have several more that I am really excited to read, such as "Fled" by Meg Keneally and a couple of others more, but my life is kinda hectic right now and I really have to make an effort to set aside time for reading... I hope it calms down eventually...
"Wind howled through the night, carrying the scent that would change the world."
"There was death at its beginning, as there would be death again at its end."
"Shoot for the Moon. Even if you fail, you'll land among the stars."

My favourite books that I have read this year have so far been Amor Towles "A Gentleman in Moscow" and Madeline Miller's "Circe". Both were excellent. I have also just finished tearing through Bernard Cornwell's Richard Sharpe series and have loved every one of the 20 something novels in the series.

I absolutely loved "Lock Every Door" by Riley Sager. Absolutely gripping slow burn, if not a bit over-the-top.

Slightly late (this could almost be the best books of the year and likely won't change in 2 months) but:
- Lost Children Archive by Valeria Luiselli. I've read this book at the beginning of the year and can't stop thinking about it ever since.
- Murmur by Will Eaves
- Lucia by Alex Pheby
- The last of the Neapolitan Quartet by Elena Ferrante

The most enjoyable book I read this year has to be The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins. Thanks for providing the ebook file @sniksnak!
Favorite book that came out in 2019 is The Hod King by Josiah Bancroft.
